Many people had been bypassing the churches and calling the Love INC office. With only seven office volunteers, it took weeks to return their calls. The office is open three days a week for two hours a day.

"We were getting overrun with requests from anybody who had our phone number," said Jon Smith, a volunteer board member. "We've gone back to taking requests only from churches.

"The churches now call us on a private line. We want to lift the burden of pastors."

In 2006, Love INC received about 1,100 calls, but could only serve 345.
