Gannett to Join Tribune and Partner on National Network of Local ...
CHICAGO and MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) and Tribune Interactive, a division of Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB) , today announced a joint venture to expand a national network of local entertainment Web sites under the Metromix brand. The newly formed company, Metromix LLC, will focus on launching Metromix.com in the nation's top 30 markets plus other key metro areas in the coming months. It will be co-owned equally by the two parent companies. Terms of the venture were not disclosed. Metromix currently is available in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and other large Tribune markets. Each Metromix site is a one-stop guide to area restaurants, bars and clubs, events, concerts, movies and more. The award-winning product targets young, socially active adults looking for an insider's perspective on local trends and hotspots.
Toy for Tots sign-ups scheduled, Christmas Shop collecting gifts
Christmas is just around the corner, at least as far as two charity drives are concerned.The Johnstown Marine Corps Reserve has announced the "Toys for Tots" sign-ups for needy families.��Johnstown area residents: Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 436 Vine St., Johnstown, 536-8844.��Somerset residents: Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Salvation Army, 140 E. Michigan Cops Nab "Grass" Haul in Grass Lake
GRASS LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- This township lived up to its name when authorities reported finding about 1,200 pounds of marijuana in a tractor-trailer.
The driver, a 43-year-old man from Tucson, Ariz., was jailed after Sunday's bust at a weigh station along Interstate 94 in Grass Lake Township, about 75 miles west of Detroit.
The trucker had been stopped for what state police called an equipment violation. An inspection turned up 48 bales of marijuana hidden among a shipment of sports drinks.
