Forget Fred, forget flair, the real 'F' word for Victory is failure
What it had, and has not shown much of this year, is flair and its absence is bringing us all hunger pains. Unfortunately, if you go by Ernie Merrick's post-game comments, his team has endured many a noble loss, playing some good football only to be foiled. While he's not completely wrong, he's not completely right. Save for the away game to Central Coast, which it almost snatched with 10 men earlier in the season, I don't think we've seen enough of this flair, vision and hunger. I have seen moments of brilliance this year, but far too little to dine on. As for the "Breakfastgate" incident in Adelaide where two key players were suspended for missing a meal and team meeting, if they had any of that on tape, the Victory could submit it as a pilot for a reality TV show called "Scapegoat" about how to make a mountain out of a mole hill and alienate a few key players along the way.
